Abstract
China Dreams: 20 Visions of the Future explores the multiple ways Chinese public intellectuals, officials, dissidents, artists, and bloggers imagine China’s future following decades of rapid economic growth and rising global influence. Rather than promoting a single “China dream,” Callahan highlights diverse aspirations and anxieties about China’s political, economic, and cultural trajectories. The book discusses how a new generation is questioning established developmental models, maps these visions onto broader social and geopolitical debates around China’s identity and international role, and examines transnational connections—particularly with American ideals—providing a nuanced understanding of Sino-American relations and China’s possible futures.
