Abstract
As we are approaching Year 2017, the term "data scientist" is continuing to be a top trending job title in many job portals. Due to this signifant increase in the demand of "data" ready workforce, many organizations around the world (includnig educational institutions as well as professional training firms both offline and online) are offering courses in "Data Science" as a subject. This study examines job trends in Data Science. In particular, our study investigates job trends across industry verticals and across different geographical areas. Further, our study examines skills and qualifications associated with each different job position. The insights derived from this analysis are useful to educational institutions as well as training firms in designing courses and programs that are best aligned with the industry demand. We built a system that automatically crawls job trend data from multiple external sources and cross compares different job postings (including skills in demand) against skills taught in an Information Systems undergraduate and graduate programs at a Singapore tertiary educational institution.
