Abstract
The rapid global aging population necessitates innovative approaches to enhance the quality of life for older adults, with artificial intelligence (AI), humanoid robots, and the Metaverse emerging as transformative tools for active ageing. This study systematically investigates the opportunities, challenges, and risks associated with integrating these technologies to support elderly health, cognitive function, emotional well-being, and social engagement. AI demonstrates potential in personalized health monitoring, cognitive training, and emotional support through adaptive algorithms, while humanoid robots offer functional assistance and companionship, mitigating social isolation. The Metaverse facilitates immersive telemedicine, remote rehabilitation, and virtual social interactions, bridging physical limitations. However, critical challenges persist in the successful implementation of gerontechnology, including technical, personal, and social barriers. Serious ethical risks (e.g., AI bias and privacy breaches) further complicate the ethical deployment of these technologies. The study proposes future research directions to address these issues. By advocating for diverse, equal, and inclusive design, this research contributes theoretical insights and practical guidelines for effectively and ethically deploying technologies to empower aging populations while minimizing inequalities.
