Abstract
Researchers have mostly ignored the impact of organizational characteristics on the discretionary behaviors of leaders. We examined the impact of organizational ownership (i.e., public versus private sector) on leadership effectiveness models. We found support for hypothesized differences in self perceptions, but not in the perceptions of the subordinates and superiors.
