Abstract

Entity Internet Hospital (EIH) is emerging online medical service platforms in China. Currently, while EIHs in China are developing rapidly, their usage rates remain low. However, postoperative patients have substantial follow-up consultation needs. Consequently, incentivizing postoperative patients to use EIH from the demand side is a highly challenging proposition in the current era. Grounded in Technology Acceptance Model and Health Belief Model, this study examined the impacts of platform and health literacy facilitation on platform usage (including intention and frequency) among 631 postoperative patients with cardiovascular disease from four medical institutions in Wuhan, and explored the moderating role of literacy facilitation method.

This study employed SPSS 26.0 software to conduct regression analysis. Empirical findings revealed the following: 1) Platform and health literacy facilitation exert a significant positive influence on platform usage intention and frequency. The influencing intensity of platform literacy facilitation on usage intention is stronger than that of health literacy facilitation. 2) The number of methods of platform literacy facilitation moderates the positive influence of platform literacy facilitation on usage frequency; The number of methods of health literacy facilitation moderates the positive influence of health literacy facilitation on both platform usage intention and frequency. 3) During the process of platform literacy facilitation, leaflet distribution, video playback, and live demonstration moderate the positive influence of platform literacy facilitation on usage frequency. Specifically, when leaflet distribution, video playback, or live demonstration is adopted, the aforementioned positive influencing intensity becomes stronger. Additionally, the video playback method also moderates the positive influence of platform literacy facilitation on usage intention. 4) During the process of health literacy facilitation, leaflet distribution, video playback, and concentrated dissemination moderate the positive influence of health literacy facilitation on usage frequency. Specifically, when leaflet distribution, video playback, or concentrated dissemination is adopted, the aforementioned positive influencing intensity becomes stronger. Additionally, the video playback method also moderates the positive influence of health literacy facilitation on usage intention.

Compared to traditional literature on online medical service platforms, this study enriches the research literature on the usage of online medical service platforms and refines the theoretical research on the antecedents and boundaries of IT usage from the perspective of literacy facilitation. Based on these findings, this study puts forward suggestions to encourage postoperative patients to use EIH platform.
