Abstract

Often referred to as “Qatar’s Vegan Ambassador”, Qatari entrepreneur Ghanim Al-Sulaiti was a pioneer in establishing the commercial viability of a plant-based lifestyle in one of the world’s most meat-centred cultures. Al-Sulaiti launched Enbat Holdings (Enbat) in 2016, and by 2025, Enbat was an ecosystem that consisted of eight vegan, plant-based ventures.

Over the years, Al-Sulaiti had become accustomed to the highs and lows of entrepreneurship, viewing such phases as a part of Enbat’s journey towards success. Despite each venture facing its share of fluctuations, Enbat had grown. By 2025, its total employee base had increased from 20 employees to more than 200 employees.

Al-Sulaiti was soon approached with an offer to launch yet another venture: the import of vegan leather to Qatar. While the proposed new venture could strengthen Enbat, it could also divert Al-Sulaiti’s attention and resources from his existing businesses, as it required capital, managerial attention and new capabilities in an unfamiliar industry. Did this new opportunity represent an evolution for Enbat, or a risk that could eventually undermine the performance of his current portfolio?

With this case, students can be taught about the evolution of Steward Leadership as entrepreneurial ventures grow in scale and complexity. In doing so, they will study the five dimensions in the Steward Leadership Compass.
