Abstract
This book discusses the fundamentals of legal research, analysis and writing, with focus on the requirements of Singapore law. The book teaches the reader how to (i) analyse caselaw and statutes; (ii) understand and research legal questions, and (iii) conduct legal analysis. It will also teaches the art and science of legal writing, including how to (iv) structure legal arguments, (v) draft both persuasive and predictive memoranda, and (vi) communicate in a clear and convincing manner. This book aims to make legal analysis and writing accessible to students and newcomers to the law alike, while remaining useful as a refresher on fundamental principles of legal analysis and writing, even for practitioners. A practical book, it emphases the rigors of legal research, and provides techniques for analysis and writing which an be readily applied in practice.This Second Edition includes the following as well:- A new chapter on client communications (including client letters and emails),- Inclusion of further tools for effective legal writing and analysis, and- Updates based on significant changes in Singapore laws and regulations (including the 2020 Revised Edition of Acts).
