Abstract
Development of an independent Singapore legal system requires a search for principle in common law jurisdictions that is appropriate to the local legal, social and economic conditions - English law as a starting-point in many areas of contract law - consideration, implied terms, and the interpretation of contracts - discharge by breach - comparison of local judgments cited in precedence to foreign judgments.
