Abstract
This chapter provides a concise overview of the key concepts and instruments which feature in considering environmental technology transfer. The chapter begins with a brief explanation of the meaning of some key concepts, terms and legal instruments, including those of the World Trade Organization, free trade agreements and bilateral investment treaties insofar as they affect such technology transfer. It further provides an explanation of the types of “soft” instruments or arrangements which exist between countries to promote or facilitate such technology transfer.
