The panel will cover regional perspectives on accessibility of key scholarly infrastructure for research communication in Asia, and reflect on trends in open science across the region.

Rocio Gaudioso Pedraza, Crossref, will moderate, and discuss the research nexus vision for an open, reusable network of connections underpinning research communications. Nearly half of Crossref members are based in Asia. This community’s interest to embrace and participate in global open infrastructure is growing. Ginny will talk about working with local partners to make participation accessible. Guo Xiaofeng, Director of Sin-Chn SCIENTIFIC PRESS, drawing on experience in China and Singapore, will discuss challenges and incentives for Asian publishers to participate in global open scholarly infrastructure. She will share her perspective on the trends for open science in Asia and the role of open infrastructure. Joanna Ball, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), will explore how DOAJ enhances the visibility and credibility of open access research journals across Asia. She will highlight DOAJ’s support for multilingualism and inclusion, and its commitment to indexing journals that are often overlooked by commercial databases. She will underline the role libraries play in sustaining open, equitable scholarly communication. A speaker for Relawan Jurnal Indonesia will discuss perspectives on using open metadata for discoverability, integrity, and assessment of research across Indonesia. They will also share the organisation’s experience in facilitating access to open infrastructure for publishers in Indonesia, and their views on optimising such networks for equity over time.

Finally, a Public Knowledge Project speaker will talk about the enabling role of infrastructure in communicating science in and beyond the region, and the importance of levelling the playing field in research communications to enable diverse knowledge centres to flourish and contribute to the global research ecosystem.
