Evans Road Building

Singapore Management University held its very first classes in a building on Evans Road adjacent to the Bukit Timah campus. Constructed in just six months, the Evans Road building opened for the first day of classes on 1 August 2000. The 5,000 sqm building had five seminar-style classrooms, discussions rooms, a media theatre, a library, a conference room with offices for faculty and administrative staff.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Evans Road building on 12 January 2000 also marked the incorporation of SMU and is celebrated each year as Patron’s Day.
SMU moved to the renovated Bukit Timah campus in August 2001 while continuing to use the Evans Road building for classes. The university moved to its permanent city campus at Bras Basah in July 2005.
