Description
Using the research done on higher education in Singapore, he identified some drivers of the success of higher education: a system that is fit for purpose, a signification investment in R&D, good governance, active learning from overseas partners, and flexibility in implementation. The future challenges that higher education could face included: the role of technology, the changing nature of work, jobs and careers, the challenge of life-long learning, and translating research into innovation.

Speaker bio: Professor Emeritus Arnoud De Meyer is a global academic leader with more than 35 years of experience in top international institutions in Europe and Asia. Up till 2018, he served as President of Singapore Management University (SMU). He is also an internationally recognised empirical researcher in the areas of R&D and Innovation Management, Manufacturing Strategy and International Management.
Before joining SMU, Arnoud De Meyer was the Director of the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge in the UK. He was previously a faculty member at INSEAD and assumed several management positions, including that of Associate Dean of the MBA programme, Associate Dean for Executive Education, and Director of the Euro-Asia Centre. He was also the founding Dean of INSEAD’s Asia campus in Singapore, and became then Deputy Dean for the whole of INSEAD.
He recently published a book on Building Excellence in Higher Education: Singapore’s Experience, relevant for Southeast Asia universities and libraries.
