University-wide commencement ceremonies are held annually to recognise the accomplishments of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Individual graduation ceremonies for specific programmes are held throughout the year.
Singapore Management University's very first graduates were twenty-one students who were awarded Master of Science in Applied Finance degrees in June 2003. They were followed in August 2003 by ten undergraduates who accelerated their studies and completed the four-year bachelor's degree programme in just three years. All students finishing in 2003 joined SMU's inaugural commencement ceremony in 2004.
